Day 5: A letter from Jesus - Revelation 1 vs 1-6

This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.

This letter is from John to the seven churches in the province of Asia. Grace and peace to you from the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come; from the seven-fold Spirit before his throne; and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us. He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. Revelation 1 vs 1-6 New Living Translation

We see here that the Bible is a message from God. Who gave John this message? (vs 1)

Although this message was written firstly to a special group of people (vs 4), it is also meant for others who would come afterwards (vs 3). The “blessing” is for anyone and everyone who takes this message to heart!

THE BIBLE IS A BOOK MADE UP OF THE MESSAGE GOD GAVE TO MEN WHOM HE CALLED TO BE PROPHETS AND APOSTLES. THERE IS BLESSING FOR EVERYONE WHO HEARS THESE MESSAGES AND TAKES THEM INTO HIS OR HER OWN HEART AND APPLIES GOD’S TRUTH TO THEIR LIVES.

What is the main theme of God’s message? (Look at vs 5 & 6)

God’s message is about His son, Jesus Christ. He is the one who has RISEN FROM THE GRAVE! He is the one who had died “to free us from our sins by His blood”. He is greater than all the kings of earth!

So this part of the Bible is a personal letter from King Jesus, the one who conquered death and who brings sinners into God’s family so that they can serve the Lord. Because of this we are told that we should give Him all the praise and glory He deserves. Is that your desire today?
