Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.

Luke 1 vs 1 - 4 - Bible Gateway New Living Translation

In Colossians 4:14, we read that Luke, who wrote this gospel, was a doctor. We can see this reflected in vs 3 where he tells Theophilus, the nobleman he was writing to, that he had carefully examined the facts related to the life of Jesus Christ.

Christianity is a truth that has been passed on from those first disciples who saw Jesus to people (even like us) who came afterwards. We are like Theophilus in that we have been “taught things” about Jesus. Luke says he is writing this gospel, after carefully sorting out the facts - so that we can be certain about what we’ve heard about Christ!

The first disciples saw Jesus and told others about him. Those who believed what the disciples taught were called Christians. God arranged for people like Luke to write these things so that we can believe and become Christians as well!

Thank God this morning for sending His son into the world. But let’s thank Him also for giving us such an accurate and reliable written record of all Jesus did so that we can be disciples too.
